Shirley Mildred Price Greenwood
November 12, 1921 - March 28, 2017
Salem - Shirley died March 28, 2017 of natural causes. She was born Nov. 12, 1921 in Aurora, IL to Ray and Mildred Marshall. She was raised in Aurora with her younger sister, Marion, graduating from West Aurora High School in 1939. She graduated from Normal Teachers College in 1942. She taught for a couple of years, and then headed down to Florida with girlfriends to work at Pan Am. After her roommate married, Shirley returned home. Home was now Paw Paw, MI where her family had moved. It was in Paw Paw where she met her first husband, Russ Price, and they married in 1946.
Russ and Shirley moved around Michigan numerous times, eventually heading to Jefferson City, MO, and in 1959, moving to Salem, OR where they raised their two children, Marshall and Barbara.
While in Salem, Shirley was a Camp Fire Girl leader, volunteer with the Salem Hospital Auxillary, Junior League, First Presbyterian Church, and PEO.
In 1972, Shirley and Russ moved to Renton, WA, where she lived until their divorce in 1986. After a bout with breast cancer, Shirley decided to move to Salem, to be closer to family. During this time, Shirley took each of her four grandchildren on their own trip with her, ranging from England, to the Bahamas, Disneyland and Disneyworld.
In 1990, Shirley met, and eventually married Earnest Greenwood, and their life together was spent traveling. They visited all of the major continents and toured 160 countries. And during this time Shirley was a volunteer at the Salem Visitor's and Convention Center.
Shirley was deeply involved in her grandchildren's lives, attending concerts, football games, soccer matches, basketball games, swim meets and rowing regattas.
Ernie and Shirley moved to Capital Manor in 2006, with Ernie passing in 2014.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, and is survived by her son, Marshall, daughter, Barb Brenner, and her husband, Paul Brenner. She will be missed by her granchildren, Michelle Hawkins, Matt Price, Leslie Bodoh (Brenner) and Alex Brenner, and her five great grands, Stuart and MacKenzie Hawkins, Rian and Blake Price, and Keith Bodoh.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 24, 2017 in the Capital Manor Auditorium at 2:00 pm
