Martha Shermer
October 17, 1935 - August 13, 2016
Keizer - Martha Ruth Shermer was born to Frankie and May Pulley on October 17, 1935 in Stewart County, Tennessee, and was the youngest of 11 children. She passed away peacefully on August 13, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Shermer, and is survived by three sisters: Lorrine Black, Mary Brunson, and Mildred Bishop, all of Tennessee. She is also survived by her daughter Rhonda Shermer, her son Brian Shermer, 2 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Martha spent most of her adult life in Keizer, Oregon, where she and Jack raised their two children. She was never one to sit down for too long, working for many years at Vern's Café in Salem, Oregon, and her waitressing days never really left her when Vern's closed. She found herself at home, always in the kitchen creating something delicious for her family to enjoy. She loved gardening, and was the recipient of many awards for her orchids at the State Fair. She also spent many hours creating beautiful quilts for her friends and family. Martha's many grandchildren will always have fond memories of her and her always stocked candy drawer, her warm and welcoming spirit, and for her simply amazing holiday dinners. She went above and beyond for her grandchildren, ensuring that they were able to pursue education and career opportunities, they will be forever grateful to her for all of her love and support. Per Martha's request, there will be no funeral service held. Her departing message to friends and family is to enjoy every minute of life, because you never know when it will be over. She was very much loved in life, and will be immensely missed by all those who knew and loved her.
