I first met Barbara in 1961 when my family moved from Jackson MS to the Bayou View Neighborhood of Gulfport. She and I attended classes together at Bayou View JHS and became the best of friends; practically inseparable. I spent most weekends at sleepovers at her home. Fondest memories: 1) making homade pizzas from Chef Boyardee box mix and listening to music while babysitting her young brother, Loren. 2) Doing extemporaneous comedic skits before our audience of fellow classmates. 3) Working on cartoons for the school newspaper. 4) Shopping downtown, going to movies, and visiting her father in the Sears store. After the first semester of high school, my family moved to Ocean Springs. Even though our visits became infrequent, I have always considered her one of my dearest/closest friends. I will treasure those memories and our friendship forever.

My sincere sympathies to Jack, Loren, her children, and her entire family. May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

Barbara was my one and only younger sister. We were very close as our birthdays were less than two years apart. (Our little brother, Loren was born seven years after her.) I took my role as her older brother very seriously and there wasn't anything I wouldn't do to protect her. We were raised in a military family and although there were benefits there were also some negatives. One was having to pick up roots and move to a new Air Force base every couple of years. This meant we had to change schools and say good bye to our friends. This was painful and we held on to each other for comfort and moral support. This was one reason we bonded so closely. There were many more reasons that we had a special relationship and I am deeply grateful for all the experiences we shared. My sister was a big part of me. She was my trusted best friend with whom I shared my inter most thoughts and concerns. She did not judge. She did not tell me what to do. She just listened and cared. She was a Christian and had a strong faith which was another thing we shared and which was another strong bonding factor. In every way Barbara was special. I will miss her more than I could ever express. When she passed away, a big part of me went with her. Rest In Peace Little Sister. All my love, Jack
