I had the great honor of knowing Mrs. Winnard. There is not enough room here for me to share all that I learned from this very beautiful and charismatic woman.
She taught me how to appreciate Christmas - celebrating with the most spectacular trees and generous array of gifts. Christmas at her home was magical.
I guess the most important lesson I learned from her was how to give my heart to my son and be a very good mother. Of all the diverse things she accomplished in life, this was the greatest gift she gave. And in turn, as it happens - her son is one of the greatest fathers to his son that I have ever seen.
She also taught me that you can make a lot more points than ya think (with rediculous tile letters playing scrabble). She carried this same theme through out her life making magnificent things out of what ever life handed her.
Mrs. Mary Kittrell Winnard was a brilliant woman - my life is better because I knew her. My thoughts and prayers will be with Milan and Marty.

I met Miss Mary when she was a patient in my hospital in Shreveport after Hurricane Katrina. I worked nights and we had some wonderful late night conversations, prayers and confidences. We kept in touch after she went home to MS and I will always be blessed by her friendship and love. She had a marvelous Christian faith and I have no doubt she went home to heaven. I will miss her greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. She was a great lady.
