I apologize for this belated expression of sympathy. I only learned of Pat's death yesterday, and that Laurie predeceased him. I am very saddened. I first met Pat and Laurie at the same time and place that they met one another, 55 years ago at the U. S. Naval Hospital on the Naval Air Station, Pensacola. Pat was recovering from a very serious broken leg that he had suffered in a Marine Corps training exercise. I was recovering from an automobile accident. Laurie was a Navy Nurse who was assigned to our ward of the hospital. Pat and Laurie were memorable people. To this day I can visualize Pat in his toe-to-hip plaster cast, and the light-duty job he had been assigned during his recovery student control officer for the Marine Cadets in the Air Station's preflight school. Because of Pat's cast, the Marine Cadets referred to him as The Peg. Pat wasn't supposed to know that, but of course he did. I can also visualize Laurie with her white Navy Nurse uniform and her auburn hair. I recall her fondness for Broadway musicals, and that Flower Drum Song was one of her favorites. I wish I had kept in better touch with Pat and Laurie over the decades, and I offer their friends and family my heartfelt condolences.

With deepest sympathy,
William H. "Woody" Woodruff
