Mr Salty would pick me up at 5AM on many a Sunday morningswhen I was 18 or so,to go fishing and I would have had only a few hours sleep which I guess Mr Salty could tell from my haggard face and he would say "I know you've been out there scouting around for broads" and laugh that long happy laugh that was so associated with his character.
The Salties were good neighbors and good friends for many years and always young at heart and caring.
I regret not having more time to catch up with Mr Salty but Ihave a lot of good memories.
My sincere symapaties to all the family memories. We always caught fish when we went out with Mr Salty.

A letter to Serafino Robert Saltaformaggio from his Family

This is the last day we can give you a kiss of respect and love. You have done much and come far for your family. We don’t know of any man, who, for 88 years of life, has taken the worst of everything Mother Nature could possible do to a person and never lost heart or given in.

Looking back at your journey through life, I know it must be true, because nobody could make that stuff up and very few men could have accomplished what you did. And you did it on one of your legs crippled by polio. I always wondered, did anyone ever tell you that you are suppose to be handicapped and not able to do the physical things you did?

I have heard it said that nothing can be made one sided. You can’t have Up without Down, Love without Hate or Life without Death. Even if we could, none of us would trade the heartache and tears we share today, by never having you to come our way and share our lives.

I have no doubt had you not been born, God would have had to make you, because men like you are needed to make his world work. I also believe it would have taken him more than seven days. What a piece of work you were!

You have gone ahead of us now, but when we catch up with you, I know the Golden Gates will be in good repair, and there will be a 24-hour Bingo game. Until then, We will miss not having you to call when we have a problem and the solution was only a phone call away to you. WE now only have your memory and the lessons you taught us, but we know they will serve US well.

You took care of your family and friends. YOU DID WELL, FINO,
Joyce, Nan, Charley & Vincent

Thanks To All for your thoughts on “Salty”, they truly help ease the heart break we share.

Mama Salty, Nan, Charlie and Vince, Some 34 years ago we came into the Saltaformaggio family and have always felt it an honor to be treated as family members. Papa Salty was a great man and touched so many lives. We consider ourselves lucky to be among those touched by him. We will always treasure the wonderful times spent together in Mississippi. We have so many beautiful memories to cherish and to give us peace and contentment. Our loved ones are always near us and helping us to continue life's journey. We know they are at peace and rest, enjoying God's presence. May the deep concern and sincere sympathy of others bring you comfort at this difficult time.
