Albert Alfred DiBernardo Born June 29th, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Alfred and Louise Iannoco DiBernardo. He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Robert. Big Al or DiBo as he was lovingly known, attended prestigious Brooklyn Tech High School, and from there, City College of New York, where he was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame as one of its best hitting pitchers in the school's history. He then received his Master's Degree in Physical Education and Health from NYU. After serving in the Army as Military Police, Al, a fabulous athlete, was drafted by the Detroit Tigers and pitched in Yankee Stadium. Years later, his love of baseball took the family on a one year trip to live, coach, and play in the fledgling Professional Italian Baseball League in Rimini, Italy. From a page taken right out of "Dirty Dancing", Al met his beautiful wife Barbara at a camp in the Catskill Mountains of New York; she was a camper and he was a counselor. Little did they know that they would return to work, settle, and raise their family in West Hurley, New York. In 1963, Al took a position as a Professor at Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge, New York, where he founded the athletic department and coached literally every sport! As the family came to appreciate during his illness, Professor and Coach DiBo had a profound impact during his 30 years on so many of his players and students. His influence extended far beyond the field and classroom and throughout their lives. Albert is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Ritter DiBernardo of Boynton Beach, Florida; his daughter Lisa DiBernardo, Esq. (Kimberly) of Lancaster, PA; sons Louis DiBernardo, MD. (Ryan) of Durham, NC, and Ian DiBernardo, Esq. (Amy) and grandson Jake of NYC - the light of Albert's life, who has inherited his Poppy's love of baseball and is already showing a strong left arm! Special nephew, Robert DiBernardo, (Leigh) and their twins; and his sister in law, Sherry Heller (Rick) and extended family. Al was blessed by wonderful friends, and would want each of you to know that he truly loved you. A Memorial Service will be held at Palm Beach National Chapel, 10055 Heritage Farms Rd, Lake Worth, FL 33449, on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pap Corps of Boynton Beach for Sylvester Cancer Center in Al's Memory (http://www.papcorps.org)

Albie was in my class at Cunningham Jr. H.S. in Brooklyn. Also knew his brother Robbie. Not a close friend but played some ball with him. He was much better than me.

We've only known Al and Barbra for a few years, but Al's generous spirit and gracious smile was always present. He was monumentally brave and always kind. He will be greatly missed at Tivoli Lakes.

I worked at SUNY Ulster during DiBo's tenure. What a wonderful, kind man of character. It was an honor to know him. Indeed, he touched many lives. I'm sorry for your loss.

Barbara, my condolences on your loss of such a great man and person. Like Daryl and Joe, I was a young 22 year old administrator at UCCC when he asked me to come play ball with him and some guys at lunch time my first week on the job. I will never forget that or my time as a friend and colleague.

I was so very saddened when I saw this notice in the Daily Freeman. What an absolute gem DiBo was! He was one of the funniest guys on campus. You would always walk away from his presence with a lighter heart and a (bigger) smile. He was an amazing educator, colleague, mentor, and friend. There is no one like DiBo nor will there ever be. May God welcome him to his heavenly kingdom and provide his loving wife and family with strength and comfort during this most difficult time. May the memories you each have of him keep him close always. God bless DiBo and his entire family.

Barbara and family,it is with great sadness to hear of DiBo's passing. It seems like so many years ago that he was my baseball coach and mentor and years later my colleague at UCCC.. and then a teammate in a local basketball league. In my eyes he was just simply one of the best men I have ever known. My prayers are with you all as you celebrate his life.
