John was a giant of a man he was everyone's friend. For those of us that had the opportunity to work with John we knew he was all about FPL Fleet! John was always willing to help anyone with anything. He was the go to person that would have an answer or knew where to get it. John was a kind even keeled man - I never once witnessed him losing his temper. One day - I asked him how do you stay so calm and not let the idiots in Fleet management get to you John replied - it is what it is, just learn to run with it, worrying about it is not going to fix it anything. John was full of so many memories and situations covering decades of FPL Fleet operations and people. He was always smiling and had a hearty laugh. John was more of a mentor than any manager I have ever known or worked with. I learned a lot from his style.
My last conversation with John was in the evening of July 29, the call was short and typical John. He asked what we were doing and I told him we just got back from dinner and I wanted to catch up with him because I heard he was not doing too well John simply said, hey I've always had issues over the years oh yea no big deal, I'm doing ok sounded like he did not want to talk about it. He said that John Jennings was in town and kind of questioned what that was all about I said yea I talked with him, he just wanted to see you. We talked briefly about his recent annual family vacation to Ft Myers and how he really enjoyed that. John said he just got home and it sounded like he was busy he said he'd call me tomorrow around 12 1230 and we would catch up. The next day I waited for that call and listened for my phone all day, I never got that call I did not want to call back to bother him I thought if he was up for it - for sure he would call me. I will always wish I'd made the call again. Late afternoon on Thursday August 11, I received a short text from JJ just wanted to let you know John passed today, no more suffering.
Now you can Rest in peace John Stack I'm going to forever miss our phone calls.
Your Friend,
Dave Vasquez

John was a man among men. He made me raise my game and demanded only the best from me. I am a smarter, stronger and more thoughtful human being from knowing him. Blessings always.
