Robert L. Norem, Jr., 75, of Plantation, passed away on Jan. 5, 2021. Rob gave it a good fight, but was just too tired. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Sherry (Robinson), his loving children, Tonya Clarkson (Bruce) and Gregory (Maria), his adoring grandchildren, Casey and Brett, his brother Nels (Susan), and countless family members and friends who were the recipients of his generous spirit. Rob grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, attending Stranahan High School. A Vietnam Veteran, he served proudly in the US Air Force. As a respected member of Ft. Lauderdale's marine industry, Rob owned and operated General Fabrics for over 50 years, working tirelessly to support his family. Due to Covid-19, there will be no service, but the family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Florida Veterans Foundation, The Capitol, Suite 2107, 400 S. Monroe St., Tallahassee, FL 32399 or at www.helpflvets.org/in-memory/

Nels is still trying to find words for the passing of his brother. Rob and I met when I married Nels. The most kind and generous man with a huge love of orchids as I do. We will miss him dearly. Susan and Nels

I’m so saddened by the passing of Rob. Rob was quite a character and I always enjoyed our chats. He always went out of his way to get projects finished for me and I always knew I could rely on him. His ability to accurately size up an area without pulling out a measuring tape always amazed me! He was gentleman and in my mind one of the good ones. Fare well friend...

Rob (the Dude) was one of my best buddies for as long as I can remember. Bass fishing, hunting, frogging in the glades have given me unforgettable memories with Robbi. Rob and I also worked together in high school at Pals restaurant parking cars. One night when two new cars almost exactly the same arrived, one owner left and got the wrong car. All hell broke loose for two teens when the second owner arrived to find we had given his car away. We did not get a tip! Will miss him a lot. Sending our deepest sympathies to all the family. One of the things I'll always think of when I think of Rob Norem is that even though he was a tough guy - a Veteran who served his country as a Sgt. in Vietnam - he was a big softie when it came to his grandchildren and his cats. Casey and Brett adored their Grandpa. He wasn't just a Grandpa who gave gifts - he spent time with them, doing what made them happy. And as for the cats - he even went to General Fabrics on weekends to feed his cats. When you drive by there, you see the little house he built for them for shelter from the cold and rain. He may have complained a bit about a house full of cats when Sherry was rescuing so many, but he was the first one to bring home a cat in need. My thoughts and prayers for Sherry, Tonya & Gregory, Casey & Brett, Kathy, and everyone else who loved Rob and will miss him every day. He was a good man.
