Ronald Morris Obituary

Ronald Percy Morris, Sr., 83 passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2016 at Sweetwater Healthcare Center where he was recovering from a recent surgery.
Ronald was born in Washington D.C. on March 17, 1932 by Percy G. Morris and Gladys J. Morris. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War before marrying Mary Teresa Welch on Oct. 3, 1963 in Silver Spring, Maryland.
Ronald was preceded in death by his wife who passed in August 2014.
His is survived by all of his children: Mary K. Larragoity of California, Peter G. Morris of California, Delia W. Guerra of California, Colleen J. Morris of Arizona, and Ronald P. Morris, Jr. of Sweetwater. He has eight grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
During the 1950s, while working at the National Zoo in Washington DC, Ronald was a professional bowler as part of National Duckpin Bowling Congress and toured professionally for several years. In addition, he played semi-professional slow-pitch softball along the eastern coast of the United States. After his marriage to Mary in 1963, he supported his family working mainly as an electrician for the U.S. Department of Defense and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Through his employment, the family lived in Silver Spring, Maryland; Anchorage, Alaska; Lake Havasu, Arizona; and Riverside, California. Most notably was his efforts to support the United States during the "Cold War" when he worked in Alaska and his unit intercepted valuable Russian communication transmissions and their place of origin through the Giant Talk program.
Ronald was active in supporting his children by coaching or managing sports activities for all five children including: football, softball, basketball, and baseball. Mary also supported the teams as team mom and sometimes the team "doctor." Upon retirement, he had several hobbies including model train building, puzzles, and word searches. He was very personable and loved to talk to anyone.
Ronald will be placed to rest with his wife, Mary, in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fairfield, Pennsylvania just outside of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania near Mary's childhood summer home and farm.
