Barbara J. Sarna March 3, 2021 Barbara J. Sarna, 71, of Cicero, N.Y., died Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Upstate Medical Center after a short illness followed by Covid-19 complications. Barbara, born in Syracuse to the late Chester and Dorothy (Lepinske) Sarna, grew up on a dairy farm. She attended Liverpool schools, but actually taught herself to read and write by completing countless word search puzzles she enjoyed through the years. She had been employed by Consolidated Industries' sheltered workshop, where she was very proud of earning her own paycheck. She also participated in Onondaga Day Habilitation, and enjoyed country western concerts and watching SU basketball. Barbara is survived by her sister, Pat Druchunas, Red Hook, N.Y., aunt, Marion Coseo of North Syracuse, several nieces, a nephew, seven grand nephews, and many cousins, as well as long time housemates, Erin and Eileen. Due to Covid, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 12:00 pm in Pope John XXIII Church, 8290 Soule Road, Liverpool, followed by the Rite of Committal and burial in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay, NY. The family wishes to thank Liberty Resources, Leah and Barb's many other caregivers throughout the years. Barbara was treated with dignity and compassion and given the opportunity for independence. Please consider a donation in Barbara's memory to Liberty Resources, Syracuse, NY via the website: www.liberty-resources.org/donate Denied a life many of us take for granted, we pray Barbara will be rewarded with joy and peace in her next life. Please sign the Maurer Funeral Home on-line guest book for Barbara to express your condolences to her family.
