So sorry to hear this. David was my main professor & thesis advisor at Brown, and I was honored to do a small research job for his first book, Demographic Vistas. I saw him a few times during his too-short stay here in Los Angeles when he was at USC. He was an enormous influence on my academic pursuits as well as being a personable, friendly guy who genuinely cared about the pop culture subjects he taught as well as the humanities in general. I continue to use material he inspired in my own classes. I'm very saddened by your loss.

I was a student of David's at Brandeis University during the late 1980s. He was a caring teacher, mentor, and model for me. I remember David as witty, creative, super smart, and, most of all, passionate about popular culture and the need to take it seriously. His passion was contagious. He also took me seriously, which meant a lot to me: then and now. I enjoyed our talks about television, including shows like The Rockford Files and The Honeymooners, which we both liked. I also fondly remember discussions of some of David's other favorites, to which he introduced me: Walt Whitman, the Beat poets (especially Allen Ginsberg), Art Spiegelman and underground comix. He was a good guy and I am truly saddened by your loss.

Joe, Beverly and I were so saddened by your loss. I have so many sweet memories of growing up with David and Jeff. Holiday dinners, interminable Seders with Grandpa, summer camp, and then staying close through the years. I am so glad that Eliot and I got to hang with you both in nyc, and Bev and I got to visit in Syracuse. As much as I loved David and my late sister Carole, I would always find something else to do when the Scrabble board came out .

I was shocked to hear about my cousin David. We spent many fun times as young boys. David
and his brother Jeffrey were close in age to me, and our families spent a great deal of time together. Our family followed David's accomplishments through the years. The world has lost a remarkable young man. Rest in Peace and know that you will always be remembered.
Cousin, Lenny.
