Michael D. Haven July 14, 2020 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Michael D. Haven who passed away peacefully in his sleep July 14, 2020. Mike was born March 23, 1947 in Syracuse, NY to Katherine and Charles Haven. He grew up in a large Catholic family that grew to fourteen children. He was predeceased by his mother and father, sisters Kathryn Kolodziey, Mary Davis, Jane Crossman, Helen Ruth Ketaily and Patricia Morse. He is survived by his siblings, Charles Haven, Carol Thompson, Edna Cimilluca, Frances Legnetto, Gail Rizzo, John Haven, Thomas Haven and Susan Peterson. While Michael was proud of many titles in his life, Sergeant for the 82nd Airborne in Vietnam, 1st Sergeant for the Onondaga County Sheriff's department, SWAT team member, Irishman, die hard Syracuse fan, brother and Uncle, his most beloved roles were that of father and grandfather. He leaves behind his children, Michael (Chelsea), Meghan Buske (Drew), and Caithlin Lopes (Peter) and will forever be remembered as "Poppy" by his grandchildren, Peter, Julia, Michael, Quintyn, Lucy, Sara, Savannah, Declan and Charlotte. His fierce dedication to any cause he undertook is reflected in his years of unflinching service to the community as a Sheriff and champion for veterans. Mike was always ready to answer a call for help from those who knew and loved him, or even someone he had just met. He was an instant friend to all. After spending much of his life traveling, seeing Ireland multiple times, and numerous LONG road trips, he spent the past few years living in Buffalo to be able to spend more time with his grandchildren. As he did earlier in life with his kids, he didn't miss a practice, a game, a dance recital, or a chance to sit on the floor and play Barbies for a couple of hours with them. We truly feel that being "Poppy" was the role he was meant to have. His constant presence and loudest cheerleading on the sidelines will be sorely missed. His legacy to his children and grandchildren will be grounded in the notion that he was equally passionate about being strong, tough and enduring, as he was about being loving, sensitive and dedicated to the ones he loved. His support was unwavering to all those who called upon Mike for help. While it will be hard to not have him here, his lessons and love will be here for all, forever. A Catholic Mass will be held at St. Margaret's in Mattydale August 8th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations on Mike's behalf can be made to Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Company 7125 Ellicott Rd Orchard Park, NY 14127. Please sign the guestbook at syracuse.com/obits

So sorry to hear about Michael's passing. Use to live down the street on Brookfield Rd. from Michael. Use to hang out with him and a bunch of kids from high school and Mattydale. Surely have some great memories from way back then. I remember him being such a really good guy! RIP my old friend

I am sorry for your loss. I always looked up to Uncle Mike. He kept me out of a jam more than once when I was young and foolish.
