I met Steve when we were both still in grade school. We were both on summer vacation with our parents at Fair Haven, New York, and struck up a fast friendship that lasted until his death. Steve was a warm, witty and unselfish boy who grew into a warm, witty and unselfish man.

In all the years I knew him, I never once heard Steve complain, although life gave him significant burdens to bear. His thoughts were always of what he could do or say for others. For years, he and his brother Craig visited my mother almost every weekend, although it was a significant drive, especially in the winter. Very often they also visited my niece and took her presents after she was confined to a nursing home.

Over all the years of our friendship, Steve sent me, as well as my brother and his wife, cards and presents for every birthday and major holiday. While my mother was alive (she died in 2008), he did the same for her.

Steve had a wonderful sense of humor, a musical gift and a hearty laugh. He was always there when I needed to be heard by a true friend. I will miss him always.

My deepest sympathy and my husband Ron's go out to Steve's sister Fauna, his nephew Nick, the rest of Steve's family, and the many others Steve loved who also loved him.
