Dr. Rogers was a brilliant historian and a great storyteller. You could listen to him talk for hours and feel like it had only been a few minutes. I loved reading two of his histories on the reconstruction South- The Murder of Charles Clapp and The One-Gallused Rebellion- but he knew so much about history that he was fascinating on almost any subject. I looked forward to every conversation we had and wished I could have spent more time with him.

Doctor Rogers was a kind and intelligent man who always had fascinating stories to share. He knew an extraordinary amount about history, and he was glad to share his knowledge with those around him. Though I was not related to him by blood, I am lucky to have had him as part of my family.

I was fortunate to meet Bill when I was visiting friends who were his FSU colleagues. He was truly a gentleman and a scholar. I enjoyed eating BBQ and having a history lesson from him--both, memorable treats. May his memory be for a blessing.
