BILL LOVOLD Obituary

MAY 16, 1940 - NOVEMBER 10, 2020

William "Bill" Lovold was born on May 16, 1940 in Los Angeles, CA. He was a true home grown So Cal local, raised in L.A., schooled at Hollywood High, and rooted in Manhattan Beach for close to 60 years. After graduating High School, Bill decided to follow in his father Ed's footsteps and joined the Los Angeles Police Department. He graduated from the academy in 1962, having not only learned the skills needed to become a career officer and stellar detective, but also having gained a brotherhood of life long friends.
Once he began his new job on the force, Bill moved to lively El Porto. While enjoying the social scene at Pancho's, he met the love of his life, Judy. They were married in 1965, and soon after bought their forever home on 5th Street. For the next 55 years they enjoyed their closely knit walk street community and raised their 3 daughters, Kristin, Karin and Lisa. Bill's proudest achievement was his family. He enjoyed cheering his girls on at all of their soccer games and track meets, teaching them how to bump a volleyball and shoot a basketball, packing them up into the blue VW bus and camping for weeks on end every summer, teaching them how to drive in the classic 1966 red Mustang, showing them how to fix a toilet and ingraining in them the importance of measuring twice and cutting once. Bill was a wonderful father who gave his family a life filled with love, adventure and important life lessons they still hold dear today.
When he wasn't at work or with his family, Bill enjoyed playing basketball on the LAPD team, playing beach volleyball with Judy and friends, and playing tennis and competing in tennis tournaments. As time marched on, golf became Bill's new favorite pastime. He loved the long days spent on the course connecting with friends and honing his skills.
Bill retired from the LAPD after 34 years. During his tenure there he moved through the ranks, eventually becoming a detective specializing in breaking up auto theft rings. As a "BADCAT" Bill relished recovering high end sports cars like Porsches. Upon retiring from the LAPD, he parlayed his investigative skills into a new career as a fraud investigator for Automobile Club of California. It was during this time that he and Judy got the itch to travel and see the world. They visited places such as lush Ireland, the fjords of Norway, the wine country of France, and wild Australia. But their favorite country by far was Italy. They visited this beautiful place many times, always awed and grateful for its people, history and amazing food and wine.
Bill Lovold lived a full and rich life, filled with friends and family who loved him deeply. Those fortunate enough to have known him would all agree that Bill was a good man, a man of his word, one who could be counted on to give you an honest opinion and one who would always lend you a helping hand when you needed one. BIll is survived by his wife Judy, his daughters Kristin, Karin and Lisa, his son-in-laws K.J., Justin and Jon, and his grandchildren Lily, Luke, Ben and Olivia. We will miss him dearly and are grateful to have shared his wonderful life and love. We will have a celebration of his life at a later date.
