I went to school in Eldon, IA with Frank from 8th grade through high school. He was always a delightful person then. I'm sure he'll be missed by many, as well as his family. My condolences to them.

I have known Frank since 1963 when I was a student of his. We were later colleagues at two different colleges for over 40 years and office mates for most of that time. There is a lot to say about my very close friend, all of it good. He was always there to help, loved to teach, loved to learn and he had great ideas and the energy and enthusiasm to carry them out. I will miss my good friend as I would a brother.

Behind his ever kind and ready smile, my friend and colleague possessed an incisive mathematical mind. In brain bowl practices, in long question-editing sessions, in hours in the presence of struggling math students in the math lab iof his creation, Frank gently poured out the bounty of his gifted mind. His interplay with both students and fellow faculty was ever tempered by patience and infused with a visible sense of wonder for his discipline and a genuine joy in seeing his students (or anyone) begin to understand any concept well enough to appreciate the elegance of mathematics. Always ready to serve outside the classroom, Frank never declined to help when even one student was involved. He exemplified the educator I always strived to be. The world is a better, brighter place for Frank having been in it. I am blessed to have worked by his side. IRCC/IRSC is ever blessed that he plied his skills and shared his love there.
