Charles Raab Obituary

Raab, Charles Eugene 7/30/1950 - 11/6/2019 Ann Arbor Charles Eugene Raab, 69, of Ann Arbor, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer. Chuck was born on July 30, 1950 in Ann Arbor to Carl and Jean (nee Stein) Raab. A graduate of Western Michigan University, Chuck married Elizabeth Ann (nee Smith) on November 15, 1975 and they had three children: Kirsten, Jamie and Jason. A devoted husband and father, Chuck was always eager to spend as much time with his family as possible, and never missed an opportunity to provide enthusiastic support in every aspect of their lives. Chuck began his professional career as a sales associate at Stein & Goetz Sporting Goods, which was owned jointly by Chuck's uncle, Bud Stein, and Ward Goetz. When the sporting goods business transitioned to become the M-Den, Chuck was tapped to be the manager of its first store, located in Briarwood Mall. He eventually became a longtime employee at Leslie Office Supply in Ann Arbor, and most recently served as a paraprofessional for special needs children. A lifelong member of Bethlehem United Church of Christ, Chuck constantly demonstrated God's love through his heartfelt generosity and sincere kindness towards every person he met. Chuck was a proud Ann Arborite and an avid fan of the University of Michigan. In particular, he loved Michigan Women's Basketball and passionately supported them at every opportunity. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Jean Raab. He is survived by Betty, his wife of 43 years, his children Kirsten, Jamie and Jason and his sister Mary (John Boyer). A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 423 South 4th Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48104, on Monday, November 11 at 11:00 AM followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the University of Michigan Athletics Champions Fund for Women's Basketball, or Arbor Hospice.

Chuck will always be in my memories. He coached our softball team when I was in my early 20's. Never had a finer coach. Patient and understanding, very knowledgeable, and made the game fun. Great memories.

Chuck Raab was a dedicated, friendly and extremely loyal employee of Leslie Office Supply, Inc. His attention to detail was superb in rotating our stock and keeping the shelves in order and full of merchandise. Chuck expressed his love of all people and became a favorite salesman of our patrons and his fellow employees. (see photo) His enthusiasm in support of high school and U-M sports was admirable and contagious! Chuck lived by the Golden Rule and was supportive of his family, his many friends, including the fellow members of Bethlehem Church of Christ. Onward Christian Soldier! And, "GO BLUE."

I knew Chuck from Michigan volleyball and women's basketball games. The last few years we sat by each other at the basketball games. Always enjoyed his spirit and our halftime chats. I will miss him. My condolences to his family.
