David Morgan Obituary

David C. Morgan, 72, passed away peacefully in his home in Westport on Jan. 28, 2020, after a short illness.
David was born on March 2, 1947, in Seattle and grew up in Kingsburg, California. After his mother passed away when he was just 11 years old, he and his sister were taken in by the O'Donnell family.
David graduated from Kingsburg High School and Reedley Junior College, and then moved to Arcata to attend Humboldt State. There he met Marjorie Zakula, they were married for 22 years and had two daughters.
In 1972, David graduated with a degree in art from Humboldt State and they moved to Westport, California. His education in art was applied to everything that he did in his free time, from pottery to calligraphy, from sign painting to fine woodworking. He was a home winemaker and made 45 vintages of zinfandel in the Westport Winery. He was also an avid abalone diver and loved cooking it for countless friends who came through his doors.
When he retired from the Georgia-Pacific lumber mill in 2001, after 29 years of service, he was able to spend his days doing what he loved most, working in his wood shop.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley and Edith Morgan; his sister, Leah Hawkins; and his foster father, Joseph O'Donnell. David is survived by his daughters, Ilse and Alyson; his grandchildren, Gaia and Niccolo Polloni and Rhys Doeswijk; his partner, Leslee Lytle; his nieces, Lisa Soares and Julie Pfister; grand-nieces, Brenea Luna, Rylee Soares, Baillie Pfister and Tyler Pfister; the O'Donnell family and the innumerable loyal friends who filled his life with joy over the years.
David was truly one-of-kind. His honest, earnest and welcoming spirit will be missed by many.

David was such a sweet guy! From elementary through high school, he was always good for a laugh. We were often placed together in the classrooms, alphabetically, which suited us just fine. He was a primo note writer, and we seldom got caught. The world sustained a loss when David left it!

Love this guy. He made my venture to WestPort
A true blessing. Taught me many things. Building my fence , wine making. Abalone diving. A true spirit. May Jesus bless his sole.
