Josephine Cohoe Obituary

Josephine "Jo" Cohoe suddenly and unexpectedly passed away at her home in Cortez, CO on September 19, 2020 at the age of 74. Jo was born in Shiprock, NM on November 13, 1945 to Bernice Begay Peters and Woodrow Cohoe. She attended Toadlena and Shiprock Boarding Schools for elementary and moved up to Intermountain School in Brigham City, UT for her 6th - 11th grades. She moved back to Shiprock, NM and graduated in 1966. After graduation, she joined the B.I.A Placement Program and moved to Oakland, CA where she lived and worked as a beautician. In 1978, she moved to Cortez, CO and worked as a seamstress at Southern Utah Industries in Towaoc, CO. In 1980, she began her work with Mon-Do Title Co., where she was a hard working, dedicated, valued and cherished employee until her passing.

She very much enjoyed spending time with her sisters, known as the Golden Girls. Grandma Jo loved to support and cheer for her nieces, nephews, and grandkids at all their local high school sports events. Her hobbies included bowling, collecting mouse figurines, going to the casino, antique shopping, and cheering on the 49ers and the Chiefs. She enjoyed traveling, especially back to Intermountain School with her longtime friend, Johnny Grey every September. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Jo knew what an amazing sense of humor and laugh she had. She was a loved member of her Cortez community and made many friends everywhere she went.

Jo will be lovingly remembered by her nine brothers, ten sisters, her numerous nieces and nephews, grandkids, many, many friends, and her longtime special friend, Johnny from Redwood City, CA. Jo is preceded in death by her mother, father and four brothers. Jo will be forever in our hearts.

There will be a celebration of her life planned for next year. For those who wish to make a donation, please visit "In Memory of Jo Cohoe" on Gofundme.com.

Oh no. I didn't know she had passed. I'll miss you so much Jo! The 27 years we knew each other went by fast. I hope you get to go to the basketball games in heaven. Cortez will never be the same without you sweet friend. Rest in paradise.
