Cary G. Fontenot, also known as Lightfoot or Fred, age 85, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Thursday September 13, 2018. Cary was born in Opelousas, Louisiana, to Aline Cary Fontenot and Joseph Arthur Fontenot. Cary is survived by his wife, Gwen Angeron Fontenot; daughter Stephanie Fontenot Stengl (Robert); son Randy Fontenot (Nanette); and daughter Gretchen Varnell; sister Lenora Darbonne (Gene, deceased), sister Corinne Pitre (Willie, deceased) and sister Lorraine Landry (Gary); granddaughter Lauren Fontenot Bottomley (Tim), grandson Ryan August Fontenot (Breanna Bell), grandson Josef Stengl (fiancée Leah Labat), granddaughter Katie Fontenot Wilbanks (Ryan), grandson Landon Wilbanks, granddaughter Chavanne Mae Fontenot Serpas (Mitch), grandsons Dylan Meinhardt and Derek Meinhardt and their parents Walter & Bridget Meinhardt, great-grandson Benjamin Leander Serpas, great-granddaughter Willow Ariella Serpas, great-granddaughter Wyatt Lydia Bottomley and great-granddaughter Lyle David Alexandra Bottomley. Cary was preceded in death by: son David Arthur Fontenot (surviving spouse Catherine), and son Russell Joseph "Rusty" Fontenot; Shirley Guillory Fontenot, mother of their children, daughter-in-law Linda Lanier; father Joseph Arthur Fontenot and mother Aline Fontenot; brother J.A. Fontenot and sister Aline Fontenot; his second mother Laura Darbonne Fontenot. A visitation for Cary will be held Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815. A visitation will occur Monday, September 17, 2018, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St Aloysius, 2025 Stuart Ave, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808. A Mass of Christian burial will occur Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St Aloysius, 2025 Stuart Ave, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808. A burial will follow on Monday, September 17, 2018, at 12:30 PM at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815.
