Daniel V. Kowalski, PhD. was born on January 29, 1964 in Rockford, IL. He died on April 29, 2021 at Our Lady of the Lakes Hospital in Baton Rouge after a valiant battle with COVID-19. He was 57 years old. Daniel lived in many states across the county and settled in Baton Rouge in 1994 after receiving his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He published several papers in various scientific journals. Daniel was an avid fan of science fiction books and movies and was currently writing a science fiction novel with one of his sisters. Daniel was a long-time student of Japanese language and culture and was passionate about Anime and Manga. He was also a self-taught bass guitar player. Daniel's quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. Daniel was a devout Catholic and long-time usher at many parishes across the country. He volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Daniel recently celebrated his 20-year anniversary at Lamons Gasket Company in Baton Rouge. Daniel is survived by his father, Victor Kowalski of Baton Rouge and his siblings, Kathy Giri of Poughkeepsie, NY, Susan Wilkinson of Port Orchard, WA, Holly Slough of Huntsville, TX, Karla Hartman of Katy, TX, Elizabeth King of Fulshear, TX and Stephan Kowalski of Baton Rouge, LA. Daniel has 15 nieces and nephews and 22 grand nieces and nephews. Daniel is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Kowalski and his nephew Christopher Murray. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge on May 4, 2021 at 12 pm.
