Madison D. "Matt" Easley, a longtime resident of New Orleans, passed away on April 2, 2021 at Tulane Medical Center at the age of 71 with his brothers at his side. In retirement Matt awoke every day with "the beautiful noise of the Marigny beckoning him to the streets." He spent many hours walking the streets visiting with all sharing conversations. His love for the city made him quite knowledgeable of the history and architecture. Matt was born July 20, 1949 in Kentwood, LA. He is survived by his brothers, Richard Easley and wife, Lyn, John Easley and wife, Anne-Marie; step-brother Greg Flores and wife Sarah, step-sisters Theresa Flores, Rebecca Davis and Dock, Karlette Bridges and Vernon, Rhenette Beck and Barry. Nieces and nephews Richard C. Easley, Jennifer Davis and Brad, Joffrey Easley and Moira, Kim Bodden and Shawn, Claire Cox, Emily Flores, Hudson Flores, Eric Davis, Megan Edwards and Brian, Annelise Kent and Devin, and Aubrie Medlin. Preceded in death by his father Morris E. Easley, Jr. and mother Sadie Williams Carter; step-mother Susie Easley, step-father Prentiss Carter, Jr. and a step-brother Kevin Carter. Matt was a retired State Probation and Parole Officer and operated the Creole Cottage Bed and Breakfast in New Orleans. He served in the United States Army. Matt was a longtime member of Day's United Methodist Church. Active member of the Krewe of Amon-Ra. He treasured family and the friendships that he made throughout his life. His classmates from the Greensburg High Class of 1967 were important to him as well as his friends from the City. He was an avid L.S.U. football fan. Twice a year he traveled to New York to enjoy the museums and Broadway productions. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 9:00 am until religious services at 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Services conducted by Fr. Bill Terry. My wife and I met Matt as we were walking along with no plan and no direction as I took her on a belated honeymoon before I went to Afghanistan back in 2011. We came across Mr. Easley as we walked and he was spraying down the sidewalk. Once we struck up a conversation and he learned of our travels he had us stay in the Cottage (and refused payment) for that night and even drove us to our vehicle I'd parked off Baronne to follow him back to Dauphine. He was what everyone should aspire to be... A kindhearted spirit who cares about others. It's been awhile since i shared baby pics with Matt but he was always so happy to see them. We lost a great one.

My deepest sympathy to his family.
Matt was a wonderful friend and neighbor.
I met him when I first moved to Marigny and that was the beginning of a friendship that continued for the next 20 years.
He was kind, generous and a very special person who was always there to lend a hand.
A true loss to the neighborhood, the city, his friends and family.
Rest in Peace my friend knowing you touched many lives and made a difference during your time on this earth.

We will greatly miss Matt. He was not only a very good friend but a loyal member of Amon-Ra. He even held two board positions when we really needed the help. Matt always gave to the Krewe and all of his friends as much as he possibly could. Rest in power our friend.

The Marigny just won’t be the same. I’ll definitely cherish all of the conversations that were held on that corner for all of those years. You will always be my Matty Matt.

I really don't know what to say, Matt was a friend, a dear friend. We grew up together from 1st grade, "got married in a school play, The Wedding of the Flowers", visited each week when his mom was a beautician and fixed my mom's hair. I will miss his calls, and his saying "Ann Gayle", when he called. I am so sad to know my friend has passed, he will always be remembered. To his brothers and families, my deepest sympathy. May God comfort each of you. Our class of '67 has lost a great friend.

Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to meet or interact personally with Matt, but he and his "A Creole Cottage" were members of our Professional Innkeepers Association of New Orleans. We will miss having him as part of our community of innkeepers. Godspeed to Matt and sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

I remember Matt fondly. When I worked with Carter Mobile Homes so many years Matt and I enjoyed many short visits daily. Matt always kept me up on what was coming to the Saenger and my favorite bands coming into town! He knew how much I loved Ricky Nelson and always happily announced when Ricky was headed back to New Orleans! One time Matt got tickets ahead for me and some of my friends to see Ricky & Band on The President. As it turned out that was my last time to see Ricky. He was killed in a plane crash the following New Year's Eve. Matt seemed to get pure delight simply making people happy and was always smiling! John, Richard and extended family including the many friends, the City of Greensburg and City of New Orleans I say I am saddened by this news however I would like to think after meeting Jesus and reuniting with his mother and daddy that he gets to tell my other friend Ricky how he made it possible for me to see Rick one more time on The President, New Orleans
Thank you Matt... may all God's Blessings be yours❤

Matt was my dearest and most beloved friend since childhood. We spent a great deal of time together growing up, and even after we were grown and living in separate cities. I will miss our frequent phone chats. He was a special friend who cared deeply for me and my children. Sincerest condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

Matt was the most gracious host! I’ve had 9 years of experiencing his hospitality. He was so good to me; always calling to make sure his Alabama Girls were ok, letting me know he was praying for us & ALWAYS ready to see our faces. If you had the chance to meet Matt, you can count yourself fortunate. I will miss him terribly. Dauphine, The Marigny and all of Nola has lost a great man. I have no doubt he will always be leaned against that fire hydrant on Dauphine, greeting newcomers, giving directions and waiting up on his guests. Love you Matt! Rest easy my friend.

We became neighbors of Matt just last year. He was one of the first to welcome us to the block. Matt always had a smile and usually a story to go with it. He will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Keeping you all in our prayers as you grieve and celebrate a beautiful life.
