Ray Spruell Obituary

Ray E. Spruell, age 76, a resident of Baton Rouge, La, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and two children on December 26, 2018 after a year long battle with cancer. Ray was born February 10, 1942 and grew up in Alexandria, La. He graduated from Bolton High School in 1960 and attended Louisiana Tech University from 1960-1963. He was drafted into the United States Army in January 1964 and served in the Vietnam War. He returned to Louisiana and worked briefly in Monroe, La before settling in Baton Rouge, La. He joined Exxon Mobile in 1967 and retired as an operations supervisor in 2001. Ray began playing golf as a teenager with his family and played throughout his retirement. He bowled with the Exxon Mobile team for over forty years, and enjoyed playing games and traveling with his wife and friends. He was a member of the Baton Rouge Corvette Club and a passionate fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. He was a member of Comite Baptist Church and the Sowers Bible Study Class. Ray is survived by his wife Mary "Pete" Larussa Spruell, son Kevin Ray Spruell, daughter Kristi Spruell Breaux and son-in-law Ken Breaux, and his wife's extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents James and Crystal Spruell and his in laws Vincent and Josie Larussa. Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, La 70816, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on January 4, 2019, on their 50th wedding anniversary. Pastor Dale Phillips will conduct a memorial service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org. The family of Ray would like to thank his nurse Anna Terrell, church family, loving relatives, and many friends for their support over the last year. I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Ray in the 70's at the Aromatics unit. He and I worked together as assistant operators and then I worked for Ray when he was operator. Ray was such a pleasure to work with and he seemed to always have the answers. I pray that you, Pete, and your family have comfort and peace through our Lord Jesus Christ.
