My Dear Claire & Steve,
I think of you more often than you could ever imagine. I woke up today with you on my mind ~ AGAIN!! ~ and just felt compelled to contact you. I want you to know that no matter how much time passes, you and your precious family remain in our thoughts ~ in our hearts. We continue to lift you all in prayer. I know that "time" is a great healer ~ but, I also know that some heartaches are lifelong. I wish I had some "healing words" to comfort you. Please know that you are in my daily prayers. May you be comforted by the loving care of our Holy Father. I pray for His peace to lift you each day ~ as you continue on your earthly journey. Dickie and I BOTH send you our love.
In His Care, Beth (Morris) Gayle

Jim and I will NEVER forget our wonderful neighbors on Riverdale Drive - Bea and Van. Bea was my 'walking buddy' and Van. . .such a gentleman. A loving husband (countless visits to see his Bea); a man who cared so much for his children and grandchildren. Steve and Joe, please extend our condolences to your wives and children. What a pleasure it was to have known Van. Hilda Roberts

Van was born about 24 years ago
Raised in the Lord, this we know
His parents showing Jesus’ ways
So he followed Jesus all his days

A man of stature about six ft three
Confident but humble to the core
A true brother to his siblings two

The trusted friend to all he knew
His ambition to be the Navy SEAL
Was his goal that Van made real
His courage tested, tried and true
He was a man many looked up to

He met the love of his young life
So he planned to take her to wife
Van did not live out every dream
He passed on to Heaven’s stream

We will be called there some day
When God calls us Heaven’s way
As God called Van we will all go

We’ll see him whom we loved so
Until then we will remember him
One of the best there’s ever been
Loving him deep within the heart
Though we are temporarily apart

I just received the note we sent your back in January. Don't know where it has been for so long. It was just a note conveying our deepest sympathies for the lost of your son Van. I have heard nothing but wonderful things about him. Please know that you and your family have been in our prayers since we heard the news.

Our Dearest Claire & Steve,
We honestly can't find the words to express our feelings, but we just had to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your precious family. Our hearts just sank when we heard the news of Van's passing. We had not known about this or you certainly would've heard from us sooner. We were in Baton Rouge for the 4th of July and found out then. It broke our hearts ~ we all stopped, fell to our knees and prayed for all of you. We've had you and ALL of your family in our DAILY prayers ever since.
After reading about Van ~ it's clear to see that your beloved son was indeed a FINE YOUNG MAN ~ AN INSPIRATION TO ALL WHO KNEW HIM! No doubt, you were very proud of him ~ and STILL ARE ~ as his loving memory lives on in your hearts. What a POWERFUL LIGHT he shined on everyone around him ~ as his earthly accolades were many! We all could ~ AND SHOULD ~ learn a lot from Van's fine example of Christianity, Bravery, Courage and Dedication. Clearly, Van "LIVED" AS HE "BELIEVED" and he has left his "MARK of Morals & Values" on this earth for all to remember him by. He dedicated his life to everything he believed in AND to everyone he held dear! Our Lord MUST have a mission for him in Heaven that only VAN could accomplish! He is now spreading his wings in Heaven as he did here on earth! As for those of us who mourn him and miss him ~ we will continue to see VAN's LIGHT as it now shines through you, his beloved family, and ALL whose lives he so deeply touched!
Our hearts are with you as we lift you in prayer each day. We Love You, dear friends, and are "here for you" in WHATEVER way you may need us. In the meantime, our prayers will continue ALWAYS.
May God Bless you with His Divine Peace as you take each step forward with Van's wings wrapped tightly around you!
In His Love,
Beth, Dickie, Gip & Taylor Gayle
