When my mind is not full and busy I think of Van. The ache of knowing the rest of our lives will be lived without the joy of his company is hard to bare. But eventually gratitude comes. I am so grateful he was in our lives. I am grateful to Steve and Claire for being wonderful people and parents. And, I am grateful that this passage from The Book of Revelation 2:17 is about him.

I will give to him who overcomes some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone with a new name written on it which no one knows except the man who receives it.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilson:

We are sorry we are late in sending you our condolences. We were not aware of the Guest Book.

We both were left without words when we found out about Van. It seems all to often the good are called home before we are ready for them to go. We were both proud of
Van for his success. As a former military man, Dr. Strain was extremely proud of Van completing the Naval Academy and Seal training. But that was Van, he saw something and he did his best to obtain it.
Again, we wish to express our sincerest sorrow.

Dear Wilson Family:
Blake and my son, Clayton, were friends at CLA. They have come a long way since those days and I am so proud of them both. Van was someone they looked up to. I pray Van's new post will allow him to look over our sons who have followed in his footsteps, that his presence in their hearts will keep them strong and inspired. I pray with heavy heart for your loss. What a remarkable man!

I went to Lee High school and wrestled a year and the first thing I saw and remembered was seeing Van's name on the list of city and state champs. From their on the other wrestlers and Coach Boff, told me the stories of how Van really emerged into a true talent after realizing he has the potential. I met Van only a couple of times during practice but instanly from the moment he spoke that he was a true leader. My best wishes go out to the Wilson family and please keep your heads up, because Van was truly a great inspiration in my life.

God has never made a mistake and he took your to guard his home above. A nation is thankful for his life because he helped to give us the freedom that we all enjoy. I knew Van for the few years of high school and he was one of the best guys I've ever met. He was charismatic and confident in who he was as well as what he believed. But he also appreciated other people's unique differences and respected who they were. Almost ironically, being around Van one never felt small but accepted. That is how I know Van.

I don't think we ever really lose people like Van, nor do we ever miss them. When we follow our instincts and what feels right we tap into the source to which Van has now returned. That is how we all know Van and that type of presence is always with us.

You lived in the present,
Alive, a life that God gently sent.

Strong and good and loyal and kind,
Oh, Van, you haunt me in heart and in mind.

I yearn and remember and want to fortell,
but you lived each day, you rang like a bell.

You are now myth, as Greeks must be,
with Ulysses and Pericles, brothers at sea.

So think of us mortals from time to time,
Who wish and hope for your place sublime.

We love and miss you, it's hard to stand,
We wait for the day and God's gracious hand.

Steve, Claire, and family,
I am so saddened to learn of your loss. Barbara and Peter have shared with me what a beautiful memorial service it was. I know Van was a very special man and that he has touched many lives. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Words can't describe Van, he is too big for them. He was a brother to me in every sense of the word; picked on me, was critical of who I dated, and some times just annoying :) but always a friend, always loving, and forever missed. God Bless Van Wilson. God blessed me by allowing me to know Van.
