George Curry Obituary

George "Max" Maxwell Curry passed away March 9, 2016.
He now joins his loving wife of 71 years, Betty L. Curry; his parents, George F. Curry and Miriam (Reams) Curry; and his great-grandson, Finn Madachik.
He is survived by his brother, Harold Curry; his sister, Dana (Curry) Hetrick; son, Dennis Curry (Susan); daughters, Marilyn Olzmann and Betty Holmstrom (Harold). He will be missed by his six grandchildren: Ann Baker (Ed), Michael Byers (Kathy), Jaime Madachik (John), Kelly McGreal (Chris Herbel), Mariah Bright (Robert), and Lesley Strom. Max also leaves nine great-grandchildren: Erin and Paige Baker; Chloe and Lily McGreal; Kaley and Evan Strom; Abigale and James Byers; and Tessa Madachik.
Born on Sept. 21, 1920, Max was raised in the Clear Run section of DuBois, Pennsylvania. He attended a one-room school through eighth grade and later graduated from Sandy Township High School.
During World War II, he moved to Erie, Pa., where he worked on crankshafts for ship motors at Erie Forge & Steel. He moved back to Dubois in 1943 and began working at Copes Vulcan. His work with the company eventually led him to settle in Fairview, Pa., where he raised his three children and worked as a machinist for nearly 39 years. In 1982, Max retired as a machine shop foreman.
He was a lifetime member in the Lake Erie Masonic Lodge in Girard, Pa.
In retirement, Max and Betty traveled throughout North America, toured Europe twice, and visited Australia. Over the years, they lived in Treasure Lake, Pa.; Edinboro, Pa.; Sebring, Fla.; and Hudson, Ohio.
Max will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was a good man-kind, dependable, hardworking, and humorous. He had a sharp memory that lasted his entire life, and he often entertained family and friends with anecdotes and stories of the past. Throughout his years, he enjoyed hunting, gardening, building furniture, and making stained glass lamps. He will be dearly missed by his family and the many friends he made along the way.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, March 19, 2016, at the Beechwoods Presbyterian Church, Falls Creek, Pa. Burial will take place at Beechwoods Cemetery.

George and Betty lived next door in Edinboro for many years. We shared many evenings together enjoying each others company and talking about our families. George was very proud of all his family but had a special twinkle in his eye when talking about his great grandchildren. He also had a tremendous memory of all the automobiles in his lifetime. He adored Betty and it showed most in how he cared for her at the end of her time. What an inspiration and honor to have known him. The both of them will always be remembered by us. May God Bless the entire Curry family during this time.

Max was the father of my best friend. He was a sweet and caring man. I remember he got a very skeptical young girl to eat moose meat. Max will be missed by his family and friends. Our heartfelt sympathy to his family.
