Wanda Jean Powell, 80, a guest at the McKinley Health Care Center in Brookville, Pa., formerly of Cemetery Road in Hazen, Pa., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at Penn Highlands Hospital in Brookville.
She was born July 22, 1937, in Punxsutawney, Pa., the daughter of Harry Edward Peace and Helen Ruth Thompson Peace.
On Jan. 25, 1958, she married Walter Gerald Powell. They were married for over 50 years. He preceded her in death March 28, 2010.
From 1958 to 2003, Jean worked as a registered nurse for the DuBois Hospital, the Brookville Hospital, and was the Director of Nursing at the Pennsylvania Memorial Home in Brookville.
She was a member for many years of the First Baptist Church in Brookville, enjoyed reading and crocheting, but especially loved spending time with her family.
Jean is survived by two sons, Harry Daniel Powell and Gerald Ivan Powell, both of Hazen, Pa.; one brother, Harry Edward Peace Jr., of Michigan; five grandchildren: Gregory McAdoo, Susan Powell, Faith Hollis, William Long, and Gerald Ivan Powell Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Hollis and Kiana Mae Hollis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Kenneth Lee Powell; one daughter, Dorothy Ruth Powell; and one brother, Hubert Alfred Peace.
The family of Wanda Jean Powell will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Peterson Funeral Home, 153 Jefferson St. Brookville, Pa., and a funeral service in her loving memory will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Wright officiating. Internment will take place in the Temple Cemetery, Warsaw Twp., Jefferson Co., Pa.
Memorial contributions in Jean's memory may be made to First Baptist Church, 101 Main St. Brookville, PA 15825, or to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West Station Sq. Dr., Suite 1900, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
Arrangements are under the care of the Peterson Funeral Home, Brookville, Pa.
