When I think of icons in Palm Springs, I think of Frank Bogert and Joe Hanna. I knew them both for over 30 years and they were both truly originals . They left the world a better place and are missed by me and I know by many hundreds if not thousands of others who were lucky enough to know them. As Joe would say," TRUE STORY."

I worked with Joe at Pal Joey's and he became a good friend and mentor. I learned a lot from him and always enjoyed our chats. I always felt important when I entered the deli and he'd call out "Dave Pappas ! How are you?" He was a legend in Palm Springs and anyone who knew him will smile when they hear his name.
Thank You Joe!!

We met a dozen years ago, on my first visit to Palm Springs. Somehow we clicked. And with every succeeding summer we grew closer. He adopted me, I think, as an honorary nephew. He was for me something north of a favorite uncle and just south of the father I craved. I learned from him. I loved him, deeply. And I will forever treasure our time together. To employ the Arabic he taught me: Arus salem, Joe; and we'll meet again, Inshallah.
