We send our deep condolences to Karen and the rest of the Friend family. We have great memories of Bob, Anna and Karen as I worked for Bob when he was the Director of the Athena Program within the Ballistic Systems Division at Norton AFB during the mid 1960's. He was a great mentor and working for him was both pleasurable and enlightening. My wife Franca also knew him and his wife Anna and Karen as there were many activities that we participated in. Franca was born in Italy and lived there during the War so there were many conversations also about Italy. Karen and our son Mark, both very young children at the time, spent many hours together at the Norton Day Care center. Recently we were at Scott AFB where Bob had just completed some presentations for the personnel there. Unfortunately the timing was such that we missed seeing him by 12 hours. He will always remain in our memories. Again our deepest condolences on the loss of such a remarkable person.
Col(Ret) Joseph Rutter and wife Franca
