KENNETH "KENNY" ALLEN FUNK Iowa City Kenneth "Kenny" Allen Funk, 67, died Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Mercy Hospital following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kenny Funk Memorial Fund. Kenny was born May 17, 1954, in Iowa City, the son of John and Ruth (Hauk) Funk. He was a 1972 graduate of City High School. Kenny married Debra Irving on May 1, 1976, at St. Wenceslaus Church. Kenny was employed with the Iowa City Community School as a locksmith, a career he began right after high school. He retired in 2013, but continued working as a locksmith and helping others with projects. Kenny was a gifted carpenter and loved giving back to others. Kenny loved to talk and share jokes. He was thoughtful and a friend to many. Kenny always put others before himself. Most important to Kenny was the love he had for his family, especially his two granddaughters. He will be missed by all those he touched. Kenny is survived by his loving wife, Debra, and their sons, Cory (Renee) and Ryan, both of Iowa City; granddaughters, Brooklyn and Kensley; his sister, Ruth (Pat) Allender of Iowa City; numerous nieces and nephews; his father-in-law, Kenneth Irving; and sisters-in-law, Anita Funk, Cindy Funk and Robin (Allen) Kratz. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Larry "Badger," Clarence "Hoppy," and Gloria (Bob) Kelley; and his mother-in-law, Skipper Irving.
