I served with Bette Stephenson in the Ontario Legislature and in the Ontario Cabinet. She was a tower of strength and I prided myself in being almost always on her side of any argument or policy. What a treat it was to have known her. When Bill Davis retired as Premier, as the Leader of the Party, I tried, without success obviously, to get her to run for Leader. She would have won. She would have been Premier and she would have won the subsequent election. Her decision not to, at least given me, was that she had some medical dental work that would have destroyed her prospects that she needed to have done. She undoubtedly had good reason, and timing was wrong, but oh what a difference her run would have made. I enjoyed my time with her, and meeting her family, and miss that we did not continue connection over the years. Harriet and I salute her great accomplishments, in politics and life, and treasure our acquaintance and friendship. What a life to have led. Gordon Walker.
