I am surprised and deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Jay Keystone. As a final year medical student in 1989, Jay was my ward chief in Internal Medicine in the Bell Wing of Toronto General Hospital. He inspired us to think and act globally. It worked. My career in international health remains to this day, a small tribute to his excellent example and mentorship.
Thank you, Dr. Keystone. You are a deep inspiration. May the family be comforted at this time of great sadness.

Dr. Keystone always had time for the needs of even minor travel patients such as myself, and was wonderfully accessible in attitude and in personal warmth. Whatever the situation, he was buoyant and encouraging, with sound advice and a great sense of humour. He lived life joyously, and I feel privileged to have known him.
