I am so saddened by Leslie's passing. She was an amazing person and athlete. We met years ago at U of T and she was my star receiver for many flag and powder puff football champion ships while there.
We were lucky to reconnect years later in Peterborough. Hugs to the family. I miss her dearly.

A friend of mine spoke of her love of her dear friend Leslie. I was acquainted through being at high school with her, but it did not extend beyond acquaintance - unfortunately for me given my friend's words.

I also lost a very dear friend recently, and so I have a certain empathy for what it is to lose a most treasured person. Here then was what I wrote to my friend, who was a dear friend of Leslie.

"My condolences. The death of friends is a toll I loathe paying on life's journey. I always end up shaking my head, and find no satisfying words. It is a raw thing, like having a clinging bandage ripped off of burned flesh. It sears and rips away deep into the viscera. I know it - intimately - and every time it catches me and strips me down to the quiet space that follows howls, screams and tears. But, that is the price we pay for knowing another person and being woven together in each other's minds in that garment known and experienced as friendship."

For those who knew Leslie far better than I did, may these words ring true: A true friend is without equal, irreplaceable, a shining presence, a hand of steadiness when chaos descends, a joyful - and honest - voice.

I am so sorry to her of Leslie's passing. What a beautiful, bright spark she was. Although I first met Leslie in high school (basketball, volleyball, high jinks in the cafeteria) we kept in touch over the years. She never let her illness take the joy out of her life.
She will be missed.

My thoughts are with the McGillis family at this sad time. Leslie will be fondly remembered by all of us at the Elkie Adler MS Clinic in Toronto. We always looked forward to her visits with us, with her positive attitude and great sense of humor.
