I worked w/Mel at the Rathkeller at Cornell when I was 16.He kept me laughing the whole day through.I would go to work even when I didn't want to because Mel would be there and no matter what,my day got better. He bought me a beer when I went in the military and told me not to be a hero and to come home alive.I just wish I could of talked to him one more time.I loved him.A great guy is to put it mildly. We remained friends although its been 37 years since I last spoke with him because I moved to California.I as well as others will miss him greatly

Mel was a stand-up guy, his honesty, integrity and sincerity were always front and center. I worked with Mel for years and always appreciated his contributions, sense of humor, quick wit and friendliness to all who surrounded him. As someone else mentioned, I will always remember his big orange pick-up truck, the "Hombre". When I saw it in the parking lot, I knew it would be a good day at work. He made the world a better place and he will be missed.
RIP
My sincere condolences to the family.

Henry Johnson introduced me to Mel when I first moved to Ithaca from Pa, I was 8 years old and we were friends until he entered THE BIG LOCKER ROOM .
We had a wonderful visit this last August , we laughed and we cried remembering ALL the great times we shared.
He schooled me in how to not be too big for my britches.
I have been blessed with wonderful friends, but Mel was special , he was a brother to me.
Thank you brother for sharing your life with me.
