Peter van der Linde
Born July 3rd, 1935, died January 8, 2021
Mr. van der Linde, as he was known to thousands of students whom he taught German language classes to at Ithaca High School, was a very kind and gentle man. Peter was married to his wife Anita for fifty-three years. His wife Anita would often smile and tell him, "Peter, you are a gentleman and a scholar." His students enjoyed his company and his wry sense of humor. My dad loved making up puns. Peter grew up in the Binghamton, New York area and even when he was in his 80's he would make trips back to Sharky's Bar and Grill and have some clams on the half shell. He sometimes met his friend John Judge there. Peter spent a few years after retiring from teaching, as a helper in the law office of Mr. Thomas H. Kheel. Peter loved listening to jazz records including Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and Wynton Marsalis. Peter is pre-deceased by wife Anita, brother Henry, and nephew Ben Henry. Peter is survived by his daughter Kirsten, brother Ralph, and nephews Mark Gerry, John and Dean.
