Tula Sanchez attended Holding Institute in Laredo Texas, graduated from Mission High School, and held a Bachelor's degree from Pan American College, studying Education and Music. Her love of music and the arts was shown through by her lifelong contributions to the Pan American Roundtable of McAllen, the International Museum of Art & Science Guild, the McAllen Child Study Club, the International Woman's Board, the Octet Choir at Pan American College, and her service as a pianist to El Mesias Methodist Church in Mission Texas. Tula loved to spend time outdoors with her family, particularly at Tula Ranch, where she cherished the wild game and the freedom of the open spaces. The ranch was acquired by her father, Dr. Cayetano Barrera Sr., for the family in 1941 which is enjoyed by her family and friends to this day. She was an accomplished pianist and appreciated the symphony orchestra. She could often be found at the piano entertaining family and friends. Those who had the pleasure of enjoying her fantastic home cooking, will miss the variety of favorite meals such as her enchiladas, menudo, poblano rice, chili rellenos, carrot cakes and pies. She was a loving wife to her husband for 55 years and a devoted mother who selflessly placed the needs of her family before her own. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
