I just learned of Jack's death yesterday through Mark and am so saddened to hear this. I remember Jack as having a great sense of humor, gentle as a lamb, patient and loving. You two had a very special bond in life and I know you miss him terribly. I will pray for you Gretchen that you can find peace and comfort knowing that you will be with each other again in Heaven - never to be apart again.
Love and blessings to you,
Richard and Janet Giacontiere

Jack, today Billy Graham went to heaven! I thought about it all day.. what it was like and the huge reception he had. You and I had such a great trip to Asheville and to Montreat our last November together. I miss you terribly. Life is hard without you. Love Gretch

My condolences to the family. I was a friend of Eric in college and later Gretchen, whom influenced me to the Lord. Blessings to all!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to reflect on Jack and write an entry in his guestbook. Every single entry is appreciated, enjoyed, and treasured. His future grandchildren will read them one day. Means so much to me. And thanks for the many thoughtful cards and letters, meals, encouraging words, phone calls, text messages, hugs, prayers, AHA donations, etc. And, an extra thank you to Eddie, Jack's brother.

We feel your love and we truly love all of you.

Jack was always kind and friendly and I enjoyed knowing his family and Gretchen.

Although I only met Jack a few times, I felt like it was God-ordained that he was a part of my life. He was such a kind and gentle person and he was absolutely hilarious! He had a heart of gold and I am beyond thankful for him and Gretchen taking in my dog, Hollister for me when I wasn't able to keep him with me. Jack and Hollister became best buds and I know Hollister misses him, too. The love that Jack had for Gretchen and his family and friends was evident as soon as you entered their home. I know I am only one of many who have been touched by Jack and his kindness. My heart aches for his family and for you, Gretchen. He is dearly missed and thought about often, more often than you know. But, I am also rejoicing because he is in Heaven, with our Heavenly Father.
I am so thankful to have been a part of Jack's life, even if only for a short time.
Gretchen, I think about you often and know that Jack will always be a special part of my heart. Love you!

I knew Jack through Gretchen. I only saw Jack a handful of times, but feel like I knew him for years. He was such a kind man. Jack and Gretchen have fostered my daughter's dog for quite some time now and he and Jack were buddies. I hope Jack knew how much we appreciated the way he cared for Hollister. I will certainly miss the one-ended phone conversations that I have been privy to over the years I have worked with Gretchen. It was a great source of entertainment, and anyone who knows Gretchen knows what I'm talking about! I always knew what Jack's tasks for the day were, what he was buying at the grocery for Gretchen to cook for dinner, whether he ate what Gretchen fixed for him before she left for work, how many times he walked the dogs, etc. Jack and Gretchen had something very special. The last time I visited their house, Gretchen was running around saying all the things that needed to be done, and Jack would say, Yes, Centurion over and over. He was funny. They were funny together, and had fun together! My prayers are with you, Gretchen, and Jacob and Robin as well. I am so sorry for your loss, but rejoice with you that you will see Jack again.

Oh Jack, how can I ever forget the many times we sat on the patio at night looking at the galaxy and Jupiter, the trip to the Smoky Mountains, and the trips we made with Gretchen to Dallas after Hurricane Katrina to see Robin. Best of all Jack, thanks for the trip to the Old River Flood Control Project area that meant so much to me.

And Jack, I'll miss your turkey carving skills at Thanksgiving and Christmas; especially when you would sneak me all the best pieces of dark meat when no one was looking. And later, when Gretchen was handing me a bag of leftovers as I was getting ready to go home, you would jokingly holler, "GRETCHEN STOP HER, SHE IS TAKING ALL OF OUR FOOD."

Thanks too for all of the other things you did for me that are too numerous to mention. I miss you. You were a good son-in-law. I'll be seeing you Jack. Wait for me at the Pearly Gates.

Love, Granny
