John Wesley Lolley

Monroe - A celebration of the life and legacy of John Wesley Lolley, 81, will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Mabry officiating. Interment will follow at Hasley Cemetery under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, Monroe, La.

Mr. Lolley was born March 15, 1937, in Monroe, La., the son of Edward Morton Lolley and Callie Norris Lolley. He passed away on May 18, 2018, following a lengthy illness. By his side was his family at Cedar Creek Lake in Mabank, Texas.

Mr. Lolley was preceded in death by his father and mother and is survived by daughter Alison Lolley Draper and her husband Robert, of Dallas, Texas; son Gregory Marshall Lolley and his wife Kara, of Bossier City; six grandchildren, Laura Clayton Ouchley and her husband Atwell; Meaghan Elizabeth Miller and her husband Ian, and Meredith Elaine Reindl Regan of Dallas, Texas; Samuel Marshall Lolley, Grant Clayton Lolley and Kent Gregory Lolley of Bossier City; two great grandchildren, Rebecca Lane West and Landon Riley West of Dallas, Texas; and sister, Retagae Lolley Honeycutt of Bossier City.

Mr. Lolley graduated from Ouachita Parish High School, Louisiana Tech University, and Summa Cum Laude LSU School of Banking of the South. He also conducted graduate studies at Stanford University. Following graduation from Tech, he was commissioned a Second-Lieutenant in the United States Air Force where he served during the Vietnam Era, attaining the rank of Captain.

After his tour of duty in the Air Force, he joined Ford Motor Company in its Graduate Training Program in Dearborn Mich. After that, he joined the Ouachita National Bank as an Assistant Cashier, where he concluded a distinguished banking career as Executive Vice President and member of the Board of Directors prior to forming a private financial consulting firm, from which he retired in 1989.

Mr. Lolley's professional, social, charitable, civic and cultural activities included membership in the following organizations: American Bankers Association; Louisiana Bankers Association; Bank Administration Institute; Data Processing Management Association where he served as President; International Society of Appraisers; Board of Directors, United Way of Northeast Louisiana; Treasurer, Louisiana Easter Seal Society; Member, Louisiana Commission on the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution; Ouachita Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America where he served as President; South Central Region Board of the Boy Scouts of America; Board of Directors, Monroe Chamber of Commerce; Rotary Club of Monroe; Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International; Board of Directors, Louisiana Tech University Foundation.

He was also involved with the American Legion; Monroe Educational Foundation, where he served as Chairman; Member, Louisiana States Art Council; Advisory Panelist, Louisiana Division of the Arts, Board of Directors, Louisiana Cultural Alliance; Advisory Council, New Orleans Museum of Art; Advisory Council, Ogden Museum of Southern Art; President's Advisory Council for the Arts, University of Virginia; Bayly Museum of Art; Dallas Museum of Art; Kimbell Museum of Art; Lauren Rogers Museum of Art; Little Theatre of Monroe; Twin City Ballet; Monroe Symphony League; Northeast Louisiana Arts Council where he served as President; Twin City Art Foundation where he served as Chairman and President; Masur Museum of Art Board of Directors and Interim Director.

He was a founding member and President of the Mount Washington Art Glass Society; the American Cut Glass Association; National American Glass Club and the Carder-Steuben Collectors Society.

While in college, he was a member of Kappa Sigma Social Fraternity, where he was Grand Master; Omicron Delta Kappa, National Leadership Fraternity; Delta Sigma Pi, National Honorary Business Fraternity; The Honor Court; AFROTC Cadet Corps Commander; President, Arnold Air Society.

His social memberships included: Board of Directors, Bayou DeSiard Country Club; The Boston Club of New Orleans; The Plimsoll Club of New Orleans; The Tower Club of Monroe where he as a Founding Director; and The Lotus Club of Monroe where he served as President.

Mr. Lolley was a nationally recognized collector of Art Glass, amassing one of the world's major collections. In pursuit of these endeavors, he conducted private and public glass exhibitions and was frequently an author and lecturer on the subject. In 2008, he was recognized as one of Top 100 Collectors in America by Arts & Antiques Magazine.

He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Elder and Moderator of the Session.

Schendle of Dallas; Powell Williams Hamaker of Mandeville, La.; Marty D. Grassi of Monroe; Stephen Lane Harrison of Monroe; and Randy Alan Denmon of Monroe.

Honorary pallbearers will be Judge John Robert Harrison of Monroe; Douglas C. Brown, M.D. of Monroe; The Honorable Judge James L. Dennis of New Orleans; Edward J. Seymour, Jr. of Monroe; Gregory Wenzl Brown of Raleigh, N.C.; Johnny Walter James of Monroe; Leroy Lamar Lord, Jr. of Magnolia Springs, Ark.; and Donald Edward Brown of Chicago.

John Wesley Lolley had one of the greatest glass collections in the nation. He was a great collector and great knowledge of the art form. I bought a piece of glass to remember him. He will be remembered.
