Many people knew my mom as either an artist or friend or both, but I am one of only 4 that knew her as our mother.
When I was a small child, she would always read to me "The Little Engine that Could," which has imbued me with high self-esteem for the last 60 years.
When I got married to my first wife, Olga, Peruvian, and my mom asked me what I wanted for the wedding present, I said I wanted her to fly to Lima, Peru with my three siblings to attend the wedding and to see my wife's country with us. We took them to Cuzco, Machu Picchu, etc.
When my first wife died 25 years ago, she frequently visited me and my 4 children (ages 1, 4, 7 and 10).
When I remarried 21 years ago to Berta, my Cuban wife, not only did she attend the wedding, she painted me a customized watercolor of the two us dancing superimposed on the church in which we got married.
We all have personality quirks. One of my mom's quirks was her not so subtle way of giving advice. Once when she was visiting while I was a widower, she said: "Well, I met this widower in his low forties with 4 small children that got remarried." I answered, "Come on mom, knock it off." She retorted, "What?"
She will forever live in me and I assume hundreds of others whose lives she graced. I am so blessed to be her son and even though she is no longer with us physically, I will always be her son. May her legacy always live through us and her friends.

Esther will be dearly missed. On many visits to the lake visiting my parents, Neil & Dorothy Chase, I would always stop in their shop and visit with Esther as I have many beautiful paintings in my home. I treasure them all due to Esther and the cherished memories of Culver.
