Robert is my Uncle. My father's brother. I adored him. I always did. And my father loved him so much...the only thing that makes this any better is that I know the two of those Spellman boys are scaring God right now...

I first met Bob in 1987 when he and his family moved into the cul de sac across from us. They wasted no time showing us they were city slickers. In the first years, we often watched Bob take Gloria and the girls into their backyard to spot something new that they had never seen in their city yard in Belleville. But Bob quickly took to enjoying our country ways, including helping to butcher chickens and pigs and making scrapple. At neighborhood block parties, he was the life of the event. I never met a man who had as much wit and humor and an inquisitive nature as he. No one could tell a joke as well as he! He was full of excitement over anything and everything. For years, both our families went to Lancaster for Shady Maple breakfast, down to Maryland for crab feasts, and up to North Jersey for some true Italian cooking. Our children saw him as a close friend and a second father. We spent many early springs with Bob and Gloria at their timeshare in Sanibel Island. I think he was most happy there. I think we were all happiest there. His daughter Patti once said life for him was a daily adventure. Boy was she ever right. I still can't see him as actually gone; he was much too youthful and full of life. He will always be in my mind ready for a brand new adventure tomorrow.

Bob came to our annual fishing trip at Cape Hatteras. He was quick to smile, always had a joke, and was a pleasure to be around.

Worked with Bob while I was in Raleigh in 2003 and 2004. He was one of the nicest guys that I have ever met. We also enjoyed fishing at Cape Hatteras NC.
