With sadness, we announce the very peaceful passing of Joseph Boich, in his 98th year with his daughter Kathy at his side at her home on Saturday, January 9, 2021. Joseph loved his family and friends and his Croatian heritage. He rarely missed an event at the Croatian National Home dancing polkas, waltzes and kolos. If you put a microphone in his hand, you know you would be listening to his speeches for a while! He still holds the status of the longest serving president, at 13 years, of the Croatian National Home. Joe was a founding member of the CNH Men's 5 Pin bowling league where he enjoyed the friendships of countless people. He also loved his CNH golfing Wednesday's and the delicious luncheon served afterward by Nada and Ljubica. Affectionately known as the Mayor of London Street, he was a well-known neighbor for 66 years and always maintained well-groomed lawns, bushes and an abundance of colourful flowers. Joseph bids adieu to the wonderful staff and friends he met at the Court at Rushdale Retirement Home. Predeceased by his wife Louise (2005), who he will now be dancing with forever and sisters Martha and Angie. Left to mourn are his children David (Lisa), Kathy (Van), grandchildren Eric (Stephanie), Michelle (Brian), and Brandon and his darling great-granddaughters, Brodi and Sydni. Also survived by his sister Mary, sisters-in-law Mary and Rose, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family service and interment will take place. To livestream the service, please visit the Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church Facebook page www.facebook.com/holycrosscroatian on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 11 am. If desired, donations may be made to the Croatian National Home Building Fund, 1925A Barton Street East, Hamilton, Ontario L8H 2Y7, or the Canadian Cancer Society.

What a pleasure it was to have known this happy good man for decades; so I was therefore saddened to hear of his death. His obituary captured the very essence of his being. He was definitely our Croatian Fred Astaire and I, like so many others, loved to dance with him. Bowling in the CFU tournaments years ago also brings back many nice memories. His warmth and smiling eyes will be forever missed. May a Choir of Angels now escort him on the way to Heaven. Pocivaj u miru.

And to his family, my sincere sympathy in your loss.

Kathy and family
Our sincere condolences to you and your family at this sad time. Your dad was such a lovely man, always cheerful and smiling. He was a long time friend of my father’s, Russell (Russ) Tomlinson for many years bowling with the CNH men’s 5 pin league. My father lived at the Court of Rushdale for one year and was very happy seeing Joe on a daily basis. May he rest in eternal peace.

Dear David and Kathie,

I am very sorry to hear of your father's passing. For as long as I can remember "Mr. Boich" has been synonymous with the Croatian Hall. No event held there was complete without him. He never failed to greet me with "hello young lady!" and to show genuine enthusiasm in being with his Croatian community. His spirit and love of life will be missed. Thinking of your family at this difficult time.

Very sorry to hear the loss of your Dad. Truly was a great guy and yes the Mayor of London St. Every day walking by the house on London, always had a comment or question what I was doing? Our Mom’s were best friends and our Dad’s both worked at Westinghouse. As a kid spent a lot of time at your house and always enjoyed the time spent at “Aunt Louise & Uncle Joe’s”. Will always remember his incredible laugh, hearing him all the way up the street!
Thoughts and prayers are with you.

Joe was a really wonderful person. I will remember him as a friendly, outgoing person who was the life of any party or gathering, a great dancer and a true supporter of the Croatian community and culture. Even though he lived to a great age his death comes as a sad shock, since he lived such a full life. My deepest condolences to the family.

Our most heartfelt condolences to Dave and Lisa and the rest of the Boich family. We first me Joe years ago when we joined his bowling league. He was always laughing and dancing, and he never missed a chance for a hug and a kiss. He was a great man who will be sorely missed.
