How sad, and stunned, I was to learn about Tom's death. My heart goes out to all of you, who I remember warmly. If my memories serve me right, you were a very close family and this should help you through this dark time. And may Tom's kind spirit enlighten your loss.

So sorry to hear of your loss. May you find comfort in the fond memories of your beloved family member.

A poem for Tom Jr., with love from Patti

Dear Lord, we thank you for the great gift and blessing of Tom Jr.'s time on this earth

We thank you for his sweet natured soul, his funny, gentle humour, the warmth and sincerity of his hugs

We thank you for all the people he touched with his kind ways and encouraging words. The people that we know, along with the ones whose hearts and lives he uplifted, that we may never know.

We thank you for the precious times of love and laughter we recently shared together over the holidays

We thank you for the years of memories that will sustain and comfort us in the days ahead,

But. Dear Lordwe weren't ready.

We weren't ready to say goodbye so suddenly, so quickly, so painfully

We weren't ready to miss him, to mourn him, to make sense of his leaving us

We weren't ready for the devastation and emptiness in our hearts, our minds and spirits

We weren't ready to say goodbye to our beloved son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, friend and colleague

We weren't ready to let go of the dreams and plans we had for our futures together, graduations, birthdays, weddings and the celebrating of lives that will be brought forth, as new babies are born into our family

Dear Lord, we weren't ready.

But you were...

And now that you have called him home, returned to the peaceful embrace of his Heavenly Father and the loving arms of his adored earthly Mother, please tell them both, we will see them again one day, for all of eternity

When we're ready

I am saddened to hear of Tom's early passing. My deepest sympathies go out to his dad, daughters, the extended family and friends - all those who knew and loved him. You are in my prayers and on my heart. I loved Tom. He was such a very special person, a wonderful man, so kind and compassionate with such a spark of joy in his soul. I met and worked with Tom in 2005 at the OPC. We again became colleagues in 2009 until his retirement. I will always cherish, the authentic conversations we had, and remember his quick smile. He always warmed my heart when I would run into him in the halls; he helped me at a difficult point in my life and always listened and responded with insight and gentleness. He is missed.

I was very sad to read about Tom. I worked with him for many years at both the Information and Privacy Commissioner's Offices in Ottawa. He was a bright, warm, very kind person. The world needs more people like him. My condolences to his loving family & children who he spoke of often.
