Mary died peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of Wednesday, February 24th, 2021. Born in Kinston, NC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Benjamin and Evelyn Bizzell Hardy. Mary was a retired school teacher and member of Delta Kappa Gamma who made a positive impact on so many in the community. She was proud to be from a family of educators including her mother and sisters being teachers, and her two nieces being special education teachers and her daughter serving in special education as well. She also cherished her friends from Grainger High School, her bridge club, Pinedale, and her years of teaching. She was a member of First Baptist Church and loved the Lord our God dearly.
