Joe H. Breashears, Sr., 89, of Haw River passed away on Monday, September 9, 2019 at his residence.
Joe was born in Asco, West Virginia. He was the husband of the late Josephine "Josie" Breashears, whom he adored and the son of Homer Breashears and Gertrude Kirby Breashears, both deceased.
Mr. Breashears was a veteran of the U. S. Army. He worked at Burlington Industries as a mail carrier. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family and working in his garden. He always had beautiful azaleas.
Mr. Breashears was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Graham where he served as a deacon. He wanted people to know the Lord and that the Lord loved them. Joe had a heart for ministry which led him to providing a bus ministry where he picked up children and took them to church; a nursing home ministry where he visited shut-ins for many years; and a ministry where he handed out thousands of gospel tracks.
He is survived by two daughters; Teresa Wellons and husband Gene of Snow Camp and Sherry Padgett and husband Donnie of Haw River; daughter-in-law; Melea Breashears of Graham; seven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Arnold Keene of Cedar Bluff, VA and Billy Josey of Troutman, NC; sister-in-law, Verdie Mae Breashears of Graham; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Joe was preceded in death by his son, Joe Breashears; a brother, James Breashears; and five sisters, Wilda Keene, Norma Sommers and husband Ray, Freida Butcher and husband Charlie, Patricia Josey and Juanita Wilson and husband Perry.

God brings us special people, who are thoughtful, warm and caring and who put love in everything they do -- well that was Joe! He was my Sunday School teacher and choir member at Calvary Baptist for 5 1/2 years. At this time of loss, please know that we're thinking of you and holding you close to our hearts in prayer. It's sad for us - but rejoicing in Heaven.
It's 6 o'clock on Thursday, and I just found out of Joe's homegoing. I would have been there if I had only known.
Love to you Teresa and Sherry and the entire family. Linda Calhoun and Melinda Fargis
