Bill was a special friend of mine at Duke through our shared interest in theater. He called me during the organization of our class 50th reunion and we enjoyed talking of people and plays. He was a wonderful, caring undergraduate and, reading about his active and involved adult life, he was obviously an outstanding individual. My sympathy to his family and friends - he will certainly be missed.

Bill was my "brother" at Duke when we were undergraduates there. I knew then he was special. His life proves it. My prayers to Barbara and his family.

In 1967, fifty two years ago, my family moved into the house beside Bill Sharpe's parsonage. We immediately became friends and began attending the church, Benson Memorial United Methodist, that he had recently established. They were in need of a choir director. I volunteered along with another friend. I eventually became the director. I have continued to direct the music there for most of those Fifty two years. Were it not for Bill, I would not have had that wonderful opportunity to spend my life leading our church in music and doing what I love. Rest In Peace, Bill. My family loved you. Your legacy will live on for generations to come. This world will miss you. My sympathy and love to your family.

I will miss Bill. He was good teacher and mentor with a good sense of humor.
