Elaine Mathews, 76, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021, at Rapides Regional Medical Center from heart-related issues.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Harrison and Josephine "Sis" Hanes.

Elaine was married for 57 years to her devoted husband, Joey. She loved her family and was known by many as "Maw". She was an exceptionally strong woman, who could do just about anything and proved us wrong many times. Elaine enjoyed traveling with her family. She hated to spend money but loved to shop. Elaine loved arts and crafts and liked to watch football no matter the team. Elaine retired from the Rapides Parish School Board where she was a school bus driver. She was a strong supporter of 4-H and the Rapides Parish Fair and she was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Joseph "Joey" Mathews; her daughters, Lisa Collins (Pat), Ashley Meadows (Vince) and Theresa Mathews (fiancé Tim Ronsonet); her grandsons Graham Meadows (Lacey) and Colby Meadows and her great granddaughter Maggie Meadows; her sisters Kitty Brister, Margie Hart and Ginger Thiels and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers honored to serve will be Vince Meadows, Graham Meadows, Colby Meadows, Tim Ronsonet, Caleb Ducote and Dale Andries. Honorary Pallbearers will be Eugene "Tunk" Andries and Pat Collins

Too many childhood memories to list. We spent almost every Sunday at my Grandmothers house, next door to Aunt Sis and Uncle Harrison and the girls. Elaine was always so nice to us kids. She and Joey were perfect for each other. I will miss her. RIP cousin Elaine.

I dearly loved Ms Elaine. I as a kid loved being with the Hanes family and loved when the Harts had family get togethers and all Aunt Margie’s sisters and family would all be there. A great BIG family! Ms Elaine will definitely be missed, but was loved by many. Mr Joey and family, may God spread his loving arms around you all and give you strength in the days to come!
