The summers I spent with Cousin Kim have, and will, always be memorable. Eleven years my junior, Kim was the little sister I never had. We had sleep overs, and she loved to brush my (long) hair. As a child she was happy, playful, and always open to new experiences and people. She always referred to me as, "Cousin Lawrie."
When Kim reached adulthood, she had the self confidence to choose her own path. She wanted to grow: plants, a family. She wanted to create a home of warmth and acceptance. She was successful at both. And, she was Happy. Kim was proud of the life she had, and thrilled to share it with those of us who knew her.
She was a brilliant woman, with an amazing brain. Her gentle, country demeanor, and her sharp memory for remembering everyone she ever talked to, went hand in hand. Kim, her brother Bernard, and I were fishing on Valentine Lake nine years ago, when another person joined us. Kim, of course, began a conversation with him. Eventually, they found common acquaintances. It was amazing to witness. She was a brilliant, kind woman. She cared for and about everyone she met. And, she remembered them all.
