Vicelo J. Schallan passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at the age of 93 after a lengthy illness. After retiring,Vi moved to Phoenix, AZ, before returning to live in Colorado in April of 2020. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, Vi will be remembered for her love of family first and foremost. An avid gardener, roses were her pride and joy. Giving her great pleasure as well, was her German Shepherd Sunny. He was the last of many shepherds she had in her life. Born in Creston, Iowa on September 25, 1927, Vi moved with her family to Colorado in the 1930's. Residing in Longmont for most of her early years, she graduated from Longmont High School in 1945. Vi married Eugene "Chip" Schallan in 1947. Vi is survived by her three daughters Vicki Palmer and husband Phil of Loveland, CO; Debbie Schallan of Phoenix, AZ; Chris Burcaw and husband Bill of Cripple Creek, CO; her grandchildren Melissa Standard, Matt Palmer, Dan Burcaw and Zach Burcaw; 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, She was preceded in death by: her parents John and Edith Counas, husband Chip Schallan, brothers Theodore and George Counas and sister Elaine Haakenson. A celebration of life will be held this spring in the mountains she loved so dearly.
