Marianne was a wonderful inspiration to all that came through her door. A pot of tea and a pile of saved articles on a person's interest, along with entertaining conversation was her specialty. A strong member of the community, she was always willing to help with a good cause. Her wonderful wit and bright smile will always be remembered by all those that became her friend.

Our condolences to Marianne's family for the loss of such a dear soul, rare and proud descendant of a pioneering family of the Sooke area.

It was a privilege to meet and get to know Marianne. She was a good example to me and my husband of how to shoulder the things that life brought her way. Those things I will always remember and hold onto those marvelous memories. Noone can take them away from us and for that we are very grateful. To say that she will be missed will certainly be an understatement for all of you who knew her as with us included. Thinking of everyone effected by her passing. It was very important to her that who ever she was with at the time be happy and at peace. So if we may do so we wish that wish for you happiness and peace.
Your friends, Julie and Ray

I, too, was a neighbour and fellow Friends of Summit Park member.
Marianne was proud of the Hillside/Quadra neighbourhood where she grew up and returned to live in years later. She knew many people from all walks of life and took a real interest in their lives.
On her bus travels or shopping trips about town she met many working folk and she would go out of her way to compliment them for their helpfulness. She would also often phone or write to their supervisors to pass her compliments onwards.
In various groups that she belonged to she would go out of her way to encourage any shyer folk to speak up and to become more active participants.
Eating lunch out with Marianne was always full of raucous laughter and fun. And we never quite knew what Marianne would say next to any passing strangers!
Marianne did not always have an easy life, but she maintained a thoughtfully positive approach to living.
I admired her independent stubbornness, her generous spirit, her laughter and theatrical sardonic winks - and, above all, her thoughtfulness and many depths of kindnesses.
I feel honoured to have known you, kiddo.

Off to more adventures...We will miss you. Thanks for great and lively discussions.

Marianne became a great friend and neighbour in the '90s when we met through Friends of Summit Park. I so enjoyed her lively enthusiasm and her determination to remain young at heart and engaged in her community. She was a lovely person who I will not forget.
